Caring for your jewellery
We recommend taking off jewellery pieces when applying makeup, showering, swimming (especially in chlorinated pools), doing strenuous activity and sleeping to ensure the piece stays in perfect condition. Surfaces and treatments may fade or change over time as you and the jewellery share a life together.
Please keep enamel away from detergents, chlorine, perfume, soap, ultrasonic and liquid jewellery cleaners. To clean, simply wipe with a soft cloth. Ada Hodgson’s enamel jewellery is handmade and while quite robust, it can be damaged if dropped on a hard surface, so please handle your jewellery with care. When not wearing your beautiful piece, please store in a dry place, and when travelling always keep it in a separate box from other jewellery.
Gold does not rust, tarnish or corrode, so buying a solid gold piece means it will virtually last forever. Always store your gold pieces seperate from your other jewellery to ensure the surface finish remains in perfect condition.
To clean, simply use warm soapy water and a soft cloth and ensure to dry thoroughly.
All Ada Hodgson gold plated pieces are solid sterling silver with gold plating. While a beautiful finish, please note gold plating can wear with time and exposure to chemicals such as perfume, makeup and oils. Pieces can be re-plated should you need it, refer to returns and exchanges for details. Store your gold plated pieces individually wrapped, preferably in a tarnish proof bag or ziplock bag and in a seperate box to ensure it stays in perfect condition.
To clean, simply wipe gently with a gold jewellery cloth.
All of the sterling silver is nickel free, which is the metal that can cause irritation. So you can rest assured that your Ada jewellery will not cause this type of skin irritation.
Sterling silver will oxidise with time. The dulling, greying or blackening effect (oxidation or tarnishing) is caused by exposure to skin oils, perfumes and chemicals and oxygen. To take the best care of your silver pieces, please store in a cool dry place, preferably in a ziplock bag, seperate from other jewellery pieces.
To clean, use a silver cloth, or gently washing with a soft cloth in warm soapy water and dry thoroughly before storing.
Brass jewellery will age and patina with you as you wear it. This can have beautiful effects as your jewellery journeys with you! However it is easy to get you brass jewellery back to shining new. You can wash it in warm soapy water, using a soft cloth or soft tooth brush, and ensure to dry thoroughly. Or submerse your piece in one cup of warm water with either the juice of half a lemon or a tablespoon of vinegar for five minutes, wash with a soft cloth and rinse and dry thoroughly. If the piece requires further cleaning, you can use Brasso, which is specifically designed for brass, and not for any other metals. Use a clean dry cloth and submerse it in Brasso, and using a circular motion, this will lessen the discoloration. Ensure to wash and dry thoroughly.
To keep the lustrous finish on your brass pieces, please store in a ziplock bag in a cool dry place, seperate from other jewellery pieces.
